GSM E Dalton DSM RE
Mr John G. Evans a Life Member of the REA, formerly of Walsall now at Idridgehay, Derbyshire, is trying to gather some information about GSM/SSM Dalton DSM RE.
GSM/SSM Dalton DSM RE left the Corps in Gibraltar, where he was Garrison Sgt Major, around 1955 (It is believed that he shared the formal leaving ceremony there with ‘The Mad Major of Tobruk’). He later became Sergeant-at-Arms aboard a large cruise liner but resigned when he discovered that the standard of discipline was not that to which he had become accustomed.
When Mr John Evans left 12 SME Regt RE, as it was named, in 1954 he maintained contact with the then SSM Dalton and later visited John Evans at his home in Lichfield.
With family commitments occupying John’s time and with SSM Dalton’s advancing years they lost contact and it was later heard that SSM Dalton had died of leukaemia. John Evans was very proud to have served with SSM Dalton and to claim him as a good friend. John is trying to determine SSM Dalton’s date and place of death, and the location of his grave.
If you can help John with any details about SSM Dalton, please contact him by email at the following address:
